Eaton is now supplying its ELocker® electronic-locking differentials for the new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 mid-size truck to both the front and rear axles. Eaton also supplies the automatic rear locking differential that is available on other Colorado models, as well as Chevrolet’s Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban.
Eaton’s ELocker provides off-road control at the touch of a button via an electro-magnet that locks the differential to prevent a single wheel from spinning. The driver can independently lock only the rear axle, or both the front and rear axles for very extreme conditions. The product includes Eaton’s latest design advancements for on-command engagement and disengagement. While driving under normal conditions, the ELocker® performs as an open differential. If an obstacle is encountered – a rocky trail, muddy ditch or other challenge – the driver turns on a dash switch to activate the unit. The electromagnetic mechanism then locks, capturing 100% of the available torque and sending it equally to both wheels. A second flip of the switch deactivates the unit to resume normal driving.
