Comp Cams now says that independent testing has revealed a better way to break in your engine. A new heat-cycling method reduces oil temperatures during break-in and allows parts to bed together slowly yielding a reduction in wear on camshaft lobes when using this process. Using Comp Cams break in oil part # 1590 via Marken Performance contains ZDDP additives like Zinc and Phosphorous, follow the new 10-10-10 method. Start the engine and let run for 10 minutes followed by a 10 minute cooling down period. Repeat this process 2 more times for a total of 30-minutes of run time. Top engine builders using high ratio rocker arms and multiple valve spring setups have been performing a similar method by starting with a stock ratio rocker and only the outer spring. After the initial run time, the inner springs are added, the process is repeated and then finally the high ratio rockers are installed.
